OPHTHALMOLOGIST
Dr. Jesús Merayo Lloves has a vast experience in the field of ophthalmology, spanning over several roles and responsibilities. Currently, he holds the position of a Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Oviedo, where he has been serving since October 2019. In this role, he contributes to the academic and research activities in the Department of Surgery and Medical-Surgical Specialties. Alongside his academic position, Dr. Merayo is the Director of the Fernández-Vega University Institute, a renowned institution dedicated to ophthalmic research. He has been leading this institute since March 2009, overseeing its research and teaching initiatives. As the Director, he coordinates the research and educational activities related to ocular surface and corneal healing, focusing on conditions such as dry eye, ocular allergies, keratoconus, and ocular inflammation. His professional journey also includes being an Associate Researcher at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) since 2012, where he actively contributes to scientific investigations in the field of ophthalmology.
Furthermore, Dr. Merayo serves as an Ophthalmologist in the Ocular Surface and Ocular Inflammation Unit at the Fernández-Vega Ophthalmological Institute. In this capacity, he specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of various ocular conditions, including dry eye, allergic conjunctivitis, blepharitis, and corneal scarring. He also addresses ocular manifestations of systemic diseases, uveitis, limbal insufficiency, and performs refractive surgeries.
Dr. Merayo’s expertise and extensive experience make him a valuable asset in the field of ophthalmology, particularly in ocular surface diseases and corneal pathologies. His dedication to research, teaching, and clinical practice has contributed significantly to advancements in understanding and treating various eye conditions, benefiting numerous patients and the scientific community as a whole.
