The Optical Society honors her outstanding contributions to understanding the eye’s optics and its impact on human vision
Rochester, New York, USA – 2EyesVision proudly celebrates the recognition of Prof. Susana Marcos, co-founder of 2EyesVision and internationally renowned vision scientist, as the recipient of the Edgar D. Tillyer Award 2025, presented by Optica (The Optical Society).
This prestigious award honors individuals who have made distinguished contributions to the field of vision — including the optics, physiology, anatomy, or psychology of the visual system. The Tillyer Award was established in 1953 to recognize the legacy of Edgar D. Tillyer and his role in advancing optical science and better vision.
Prof. Marcos receives this recognition “for contributions to our basic understanding of the effect of the eye’s optics on vision, including the passage of light through the cornea and lens and into the photoreceptors where vision begins.”
A leading figure in the field of ophthalmic optics, Prof. Marcos’ research has advanced the understanding of how the human eye forms images and how optical imperfections affect visual performance. Her work has bridged fundamental science and clinical application — from adaptive optics and ocular imaging to the development of SimVis Gekko, the first binocular, see-through simulator that allows patients to experience how they will see after surgery.

The Edgar D. Tillyer Award, endowed by the American Optical Company and the Chope Family Bypass Trust, has been presented annually since 2016 to leaders in vision science who have redefined the understanding of human sight.
