The recognition marked the start of an intense week for the company at the ESCRS 2026 Congress in London, where visual simulation confirmed its growing role in everyday clinical practice.
Most Innovative Company at ESCRS iNovation Day
Máximo Gómez, Chief Executive Officer of 2EyesVision, took the stage in the “Managing Presbyopia: Simultaneous Vision IOLs” session to present the company and SimVis Gekko to an audience focused on the technologies and ideas shaping the future of ophthalmology. The audience voted 2EyesVision as the most innovative company in the category.
This recognition comes as visual simulation is becoming part of clinical practice internationally, supported by growing scientific evidence and real-world experience. By bringing the patient’s visual experience into the preoperative process, SimVis Gekko is helping move the conversation around advanced IOLs towards greater personalization, better expectation management and more patient-centered care.

4th SimVis Gekko Users Meeting
2EyesVision opened its ESCRS agenda with the 4th SimVis Gekko Users Meeting, under the theme “Mastering Clinical Decisions with Visual Simulation.” The meeting set out to answer one question: how can real-world visual simulation lead to better real-world outcomes? Clinicians and SimVis users came together to share how visual simulation is being integrated into everyday practice, from patient counselling and clinical grey zones to expectation management, patient profiling and advanced-IOL decision-making.
The programme brought together different clinical perspectives:
- Patient experience and preoperative counselling, with Brendan Cummings.
- The latest developments from 2EyesVision, with Carlos Dorronsoro, Chief Innovation Officer, Founder & President of 2EyesVision.
- Real-world vs virtual reality simulation and a US perspective on preoperative counselling, with Dr. Scott MacRae.
- Using SimVis in clinical grey zones, with Dr. Nicolás Alejandre Alba.
- Improving patient satisfaction with SimVis, with Dr. Alicia Sánchez García.
- Psychological red flags between desire and reality in surgical practice, with Camille Bosc and Anaïs Nicolas.
The morning culminated in the expert panel “Managing the Modern Cataract Patient,” which brought together experienced SimVis users with the special participation of Dr. Erik Mertens, followed by Q&A, networking and live SimVis demonstrations. The goal was simple but ambitious: better patient conversations, more confident clinical decisions and stronger real-world outcomes.
New evidence on visual simulation
Two oral presentations and a presented poster at ESCRS 2026 added new evidence on the clinical role of preoperative visual simulation in cataract and refractive lens surgery.
The clinician perspective. In a multicentre survey, all clinicians reported greater confidence in their IOL recommendations after using SimVis, and the initial surgical plan was frequently modified after simulation. “Impact of Preoperative Visual Simulation on Clinical Decision-Making and Patient Counselling: A Multicentre Real-World Clinician Survey.” Presenter: Dr. Julien Combes.
The patient perspective. Preoperative simulation was associated with significantly less functional limitation from halos after surgery (4.8% vs 16.3%, p=0.002). Patients also rated the simulation as easy to understand and faithful to their actual postoperative vision. “Functional Outcomes After Visual Simulation in Refractive Cataract Surgery: A Patient-Reported Analysis.” Presenter: Dr. Alicia Sánchez García.
Predicting outcomes. In cataract patients, a calibrated model using preoperative SimVis measurements showed good ability to predict postoperative visual acuity, with results within ±2 lines in 100% of patients at far, 95% at intermediate and 82% at near. The same study showed that postoperative satisfaction cannot be explained by visual acuity alone: expectations and subjective visual experience matter. Preoperative preference measured with SimVis can help flag patients more vulnerable to dissatisfaction, who may benefit from closer expectation management before surgery. “Predicting Postoperative Visual Acuity with Different Intraocular Lenses Using Preoperative Visual Simulations in Patients with Cataracts.” Presenter: Dr. Sofía Bielsa.
Together, these findings point in the same direction: visual simulation is moving beyond showing patients what they may see. It is becoming a tool to support more personalized IOL recommendations, better expectation management and more informed conversations before surgery.
