Madrid, September 2025 – 2EyesVision is pleased to share that SimVis Gekko, co-invented by Prof. Susana Marcos, has been featured in the latest issue of CAKE Magazine (Issue 27) in the article “Test Driving IOLs.”

Cataract surgery remains one of the most successful medical procedures, yet many patients still experience what is known as the expectation–reality gap: even when visual outcomes are clinically excellent, up to 27% of patients report dissatisfaction because their vision does not meet their expectations.

The article shows how SimVis Gekko is addressing this challenge:

  •  Previewing vision before surgery – With SimVis Gekko, patients can experience real-world vision through different intraocular lens (IOL) designs — monofocal, trifocal, and extended depth-of-focus (EDOF) — before making a permanent choice.
  • Clinical validation – A study conducted by Dr. Henriques and colleagues at Centro Hospitalar Universitário de Coimbra with 51 patients demonstrated that 92% found SimVis Gekko “very useful” in guiding their lens selection.
  • Reducing post-op surprises – By allowing patients to “test drive” IOLs, SimVis Gekko empowers informed decision-making, reduces post-surgery dissatisfaction, and provides surgeons with a valuable tool to align expectations with outcomes.

As Prof. Susana Marcos explained:
“Patients are not only told what to expect but actually see the real world binocularly through the simulated lens and compare across different options.”

This recognition in CAKE Magazine underlines the growing role of simulation technologies like SimVis Gekko in modern cataract surgery and their contribution to more personalized patient care.
