We have proudly commercialized the SimVis Gekko and are currently developing many more products. ## Scientific Publications - [Predictions of Through-Focus Performance of Presbyopia-Correcting Intraocular Lenses in Presbyopic Subjects Using a Visual Simulator](https://www.2eyesvision.com/predictions-of-through-focus-performance-of-presbyopia-correcting-intraocular-lenses-in-presbyopic-subjects-using-a-visual-simulator/): Results: Simulated IOLs accurately reproduced on-bench optical profiles in terms of through-focus Visual Strehl Ratio (cross-correlation >0.98, RMSE <0.04). Defocus visual acuity curves through simulated IOLs closely matched postoperative curves in subjects implanted with the corresponding IOL (cross-correlation ≥0.94, RMSE ≤0.07), with far vision differences ≤0.09 logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution (logMAR). Discrepancies were largest at high near vergences (up to 0.17 logMAR). Trifocal IOLs (PanOptix, FineVision, AT Lisa) expanded DOF by ∼1.5 D compared with monofocal IOLs, while EDOF IOLs (Symfony, Vivity, AT Lara) expanded DOF by ∼0.7 D. Visual simulations replicated relative gains at intermediate/near and degradations at far, consistent with clinical outcomes in implanted patients. Intersubject variability observed in simulations - [Halo Measurements in Simulated Multifocal Intraocular Lenses](https://www.2eyesvision.com/halo-measurements-in-simulated-multifocal-intraocular-lenses/): Purpose: To quantify the halo size produced by simulated multifocal and extended depth of focus (EDOF) intraocular lenses (IOLs) using a novel psychophysical method, and to compare the results with an established halo assessment tool, computational simulations, and subjective bothersomeness scores. - [Improving multifocal contact lens fitting by replicating their fitting guides using the SimVis Gekko visual simulator](https://www.2eyesvision.com/improving-multifocal-contact-lens-fitting-by-replicating-their-fitting-guides-using-the-simvis-gekko-visual-simulator/): Purpose: To evaluate the feasibility of implementing fitting guides for multifocal contact lenses (MCLs) using the SimVis Gekko visual simulator and, through a preliminary assessment with a novel metric (3D-VA, which integrates visual acuity at multiple distances and patient visual needs), determine whether this combined approach can optimise initial MCL selection. Methods: Twenty presbyopic subjects participated in this study using two methods to select on-eye MCLs from 4 manufacturers: (1) using the first step of the fitting guide, according to the patient's addition need, to provide the MCLs recommended by the manufacturer and, (2) using SimVis Gekko simulations to obtain MCLs providing better 3D-VA, between the first and the first-alternative step of the fitting guides. Clinical measurements and metric calculations (3D-VA, perceptual score module, and direct preference) were conducted to compare the visual performance of the on-eye MCLsselected by both methods when differences existed. Results: SimVis Gekko selected the same combination of MCLs as the fitting guides in 59 % of the cases. In 28 %, SimVis Gekko chose the alternative step with differences greater than 0.05 in 3D-VA. In these latter cases, the 3D-VAsobtained with the on-eye MCLs indicated that SimVis Gekko selections were better in 62 % of cases, equal in 14 %, and worse in 24 %. The perceptual score module showed that SimVis Gekko selections were better in 62 % of cases, equal in 9 %, and worse in 29 %. The direct preference indicated that SimVis Gekko selections were better in 61 % of cases. Clinical measurements revealed that MCLsselected by SimVis Gekko had better Near Activity Visual Questionnaire scoresthan the fitting guide selection acrossall manufacturers (p = 0.02), indicating greater comfort and independence for near activities. Conclusions: SimVis Gekko can effectively replicate fitting guide steps and, in combinationwith the3D-VA metric, has the potential to become a tool that helps practitioners enhance MCL wearer satisfaction. This approach could improve the adoption and visual performance of MCLs among the presbyopic population,streamlining the fitting process. - [Perceptual cost and benefit of presbyopia-correcting intraocular lenses: effect of energy balance, addition, and adaptation](https://www.2eyesvision.com/perceptual-cost-and-benefit-of-presbyopia-correcting-intraocular-lenses-effect-of-energy-balance-addition-and-adaptation/): Abstract Presbyopic intraocular lenses (IOLs) based on simultaneous vision represent a compromise between perceptual benefit and cost at near and far distances. We evaluated this compromise for simulated bifocal IOLs with varying energy distributions and additions using SimVis Gekko under different adaptation conditions. Presenting multifocal corrections after a blur adaptation with an abrupt transition of at least 5s improves acceptance. Smooth transitions to multifocality of at least 5s also improve acceptance, independently of previous adaptation. Corrections with low additions show more visual degradation at far without equivalent benefit at near. These results can be useful for IOL designers and clinicians to maximize multifocal adoption of IOLs.   - [Visual simulation of intraocular lenses: from on-bench performance to computational and experimental validations](https://www.2eyesvision.com/visual-simulation-of-intraocular-lenses-from-on-bench-performance-to-computational-and-experimental-validations/): Abstract This study presents a systematic method to simulate various intraocular lenses (IOLs) available in the market. Five IOLs (two trifocals, one bifocal, one enhanced monofocal, and one extended depth of focus (EDOF)) were evaluated in terms of through focus visual Strehl (TFVS) utilizing the OptiSpheric IOL PRO2 device (Trioptics GmbH). Then, the estimated TFVS (ETFVS) and the temporal coefficients necessary for temporal multiplexing were computed, and through an iterative process, the SimVis TFVS was obtained. Finally, a high-speed focimeter was used to measure the opto-tunable lens responses to the temporal profile, and the experimental SimVis TFVS was acquired. Therefore, results are analyzed in terms of ETFVS (computed from the VSR-OTF), SimVis TFVS (computed from the TCs through temporal multiplexing), and experimental SimVis TFVS (acquired from the high-speed focimeter setup). The ETFVS and the SimVis TFVS curves demonstrated excellent alignment across all IOLs with cross-correlation coefficients > 0.94. Similarly, the experimental SimVis TFVS and the SimVis TFVS curves showed high correlation with cross-correlation coefficients > 0.97 and root mean square error (RMSE) < 0.05 for each lens. To address this situation, visual simulators can be used to refine the adaptation process. This study aims to obtain accurate simulations for a visual simulator (SimVis Gekko; 2EyesVision) of daily soft MCL designs from four manufacturers. In-vitro characterization of these MCLs—several powers and additions- was obtained using NIMO TR-1504. From the averaged relative power profiles across powers, phase maps were reconstructed and the Through-Focus Visual Strehl metric was calculated for each MCL design. The SimVis Gekko simulation corresponding to each MCL design was obtained computationally and bench-validated. Finally, the MCL simulations were clinically validated involving presbyopic patients. The clinical validation results show a good agreement between the SimVis Gekko simulations and the real MCLs for through-focus visual acuity (TF-VA) curves and VA at three real distances. All MCL designs showed a partial correlation higher than 0.90 and a Root Mean Square Error below 0.07 logMAR between the TF-VA of simulations and Real MCLs across subjects.
