Multifocal intraocular lenses are used to provide patients to functional vision at various distances. In a recent paper published in Scientific Reports we demostrated the equivalency of through focus visual acuity with real lenses (a bifocal refractive IOL and a trifocal diffractive IOL) and the same lenses simulated in a Spatial Light Modulator and SimVis technology (temporal multiplexing).
