Carlos Dorronsoro co-founder of 2Eyes Vision and co-inventor of the SimVis technology, received the Physics, Innovation and Technology Award on December 12th 2019, for developing and transferring optical technologies with a high social and economic impact.
The event was held at the headquarters of the BBVA Foundation (Paseo de Recoletos, 10). During his intervention, Carlos Dorronsoro has remembered the support provided by the RSEF when being a brilliant student of Physics had serious health problems: “My career in Physics started off on a wrong foot. I spent a lot of time with oncologists, traumatologists, radiologists or radiophysicists, and I realized that Physics is not just something theoretical [but] a powerful tool that solves problems, and saves lives. (…) In hospitals I also learned that (…) a bad file closes your doors of science. “
Throughout his career, Dorronsoro has worked as a scientist, technologist, entrepreneur and manager, to bring to the market the technologies resulting from his research. He began his career in the industry and then “returned to the academic world, but always thinking about the social dimension of research results”, he said. He has co-founded four companies and is co-inventor of 21 patents in refractive and cataract surgery, image processing and microscopy, among other areas.
